Iara Sousa is the Africa Implementation Officer for the Principles for Sustainable Insurance(PSI), based in Maputo, Mozambique; she oversees the awareness, implementation, and development of sustainable insurance initiatives across the continent in collaboration with the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance (NDSI). With over ten years of experience in the African insurance industry, Iara holds a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Saad Dahlab University in Algeria, diplomas in Inclusive Insurance and Sustainable Finance from the Frankfurt School, and is a Chartered Insurer through the Chartered Insurance Institute of the UK. Passionate about gender equality and sustainability, Iara has led initiatives such as Young Insurance Professionals and Women’s Leadership in Insurance Africa. She founded Mozambique Women for Inclusive Insurance to empower women and girls facing social and climate-related challenges, driven by her deep commitment to creating meaningful change across Africa.
