Africa Ahead signs Nairobi Declaration as key meeting planned
Africa Ahead: the Sustainability Challenge has signed the Nairobi Declaration, committing to enhance the knowledge and capacity of the African insurance industry on sustainable insurance.
Managing editor Liz Booth said: “Signing the Nairobi Declaration was a natural move for us, as part of our DNA is to enhance communication and awareness among African insurance players about the value of developing a sustainable and resilient insurance marketplace.
“We look forward to this conversation increasing greatly in the coming months as we look forward to COP27 in Egypt this November, and to the African insurance industry having a meaningful voice at that global conference.”
The Nairobi Declaration was formally launched at the UN PSI’s fourth Africa Summit in Nairobi in April 2021, hosted by ICEA Lion Group.
Meanwhile, the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance, FSD Africa and the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Kenya are holding a breakfast briefing on Thursday 3 February, as part of a series of events that will take place throughout the year as we bring together senior leaders to accelerate solutions to major sustainability challenges – ranging from climate change and ecosystem degradation to poverty and social inequality – particularly in a post-Covid-19 world.
The breakfast meeting, where the focus will be on the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance, will convene CEOs and senior executives from insurers, reinsurers, brokers, insurance associations, regulators and policymakers, as well as academia and civil society organisations to discuss (among other topics):
- The role of the African insurance industry in enabling a healthy, safe, resilient and sustainable society
- Policy, regulatory and industry engagement
- The need for collaboration.
