Nigeria will be hosting the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance C-Suite meeting on 31st March 2022

The UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) initiative, FSD Africa, and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) of Nigeria will be hosting the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance C-Suite meeting to be held in-person on 31st March 2022 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Endorsed by the UN Secretary-General, the Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) are a global framework for the insurance industry to address environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities. Over 200 organizations worldwide have adopted the Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI), including insurers representing almost 30% of world premium volume and more than USD 14 trillion in assets under management.

The Declaration on Sustainable Insurance is an African industry-wide PSI initiative aimed at leveraging the collective financial might of the African insurance industry towards a sustainable future. It was launched at the 4th PSI African Market Event in April 2021 and is a statement of commitment by African CEOs and other senior industry leaders to strengthen the African insurance industry’s contribution to achieving the SDGs.

This C-suite meeting is part of a series of events that will take place throughout the year as we bring together senior leaders to accelerate solutions to major sustainability challenges – ranging from climate change and ecosystem degradation to poverty and social inequality – particularly in a post-COVID-19 world.

This breakfast will convene CEOs and Senior Executives from insurers, reinsurers, brokers, insurance associations, regulators, and policymakers, as well as academia and civil society organisations to discuss (among others):

  • The role of the African insurance industry in enabling a healthy, safe, resilient and sustainable society
  • Policy, regulatory and industry engagement
  • The need for collaboration
